Strike Action in Rosebank Today
Below is an e-mail sent out to us at Avusa about the planned strike action today:
TO ALL STAFF AVUSA STAFF BASED IN ROSEBANK
ROSEBANK / LOWER ROSEBANK MANAGEMENT DISTRICTS
SASOL AT STRIKE ON 27 JULY 2011
- 6000 strikers from the chemical industry are expected to partake in the strike.
- 8 buses will ferry the strikers to Rosebank – each bus will make many trips to Rosebank.
- The strike will take place from 10h00 to 14h00 on 27 July 2011.
- Reason for the strike – wage negotiation.
- JMPD will close off the Bolton road from Bath avenue to Jan Smuts avenue. Only the buses carrying the strikers will be allowed there. Road closures will begin at 09h00. Roads will be re-opened between 15h00 and 16h00.
- Sturdee avenue will also be closed at Baker street south side.
- Toilets for the strikers will be placed along Bolton road north side between Bath & Sturdee.
- Drop off points for the strikers will be anywhere between Bath avenue and Jan Smuts avenue.
- The key area to hand over their demands will be at 1 Sturdee avenue on Sturdee avenue between Bolton road and Baker street.
- SAPS will assist JMPD with the strike.
- Competitors like Total and Chevron need to also be on alert as there might be groups separating from the main bunch and harassing the competitors.
- The garages in the node need to also be on high alert.
- Our PSA’s will patrol the perimeter of the strike site watching out for splinter groups.

- Destruction of plants on the islands – Sasol will not take responsibility for damage to plants on traffic islands – Sasol will provide contact details for follow up.
- Sasol has promised to clean up the striking area when the strike is over.
